Everyone is talking about what they are going to do this year: eat better, exercise, spend more time with God, garden, begin prepping. I have decided that today I am going to talk about what I am not going to do…and why. :O
In 2012, I purchased a Kindle Fire for myself. I really, really like this device. I really, really like books. This is not a bad thing. My Mama instilled in me a love of reading and always told me if I could read, and enjoyed reading, I could learn to do just about anything. (Obviously I will not read about doing open heart surgery and then try this on anyone. 😀 And no, I am not accepting applications for volunteer guinea pigs.)
No, I love to learn and try new things. I am warped and twisted that way. Very little I will not try once. If you have never watched an episode of “Man vs. Wild” with Bear Grylls, do so and you will understand why there are things I will NOT try once. :D)
Last year, after years and years, okay, since childhood, of wanting to learn how to knit, I finally accomplished this goal! Woot-woot! I was a knitting fool last year and I can now knit a mean scarf. I mean, I knitted a bunch of scarfs, some hats, a pair of socks and am currently working on a doggy sweater. I also began the attack on crocheting (another childhood desire to learn) and can now crochet a mean washcloth. Hey, we all have to start somewhere.
Anyhow, what does all this have to do with what I am not going to do. Well, back to that whole Kindle thing….I downloaded a ton (okay, a couple hundred) of free books that looked really interesting and of new stuff to learn and do. Do you want to know how many books I managed to actually start and finish last year? 12. Yes, really, t.w.e.l.e.v.e. 12. That’s it. Pathetic. Sad. Disappointing. Must improve this number.
Now, add to this the overwhelming number of things that I pinned on the ever dangerous Pinterest and well, you can imagine. I have a lot to read and tons of projects that I would like to do, things I would like to learn, and things that NEED to be done. Hum…did you notice I listed the ‘needs’ last? Must be some way of me still trying to avoid some things. Nah!
So, with all that said, I will NOT be downloading any books for my Kindle, not even free ones (which is what I primarily download), I will NOT be pinning anything new at Pinterest. I will not be purchasing any new books (gifts are welcomed and accepted however. 😀 ) Nope, not gonna do it. Going to focus on what I already have, and do what I already need/want to do.
Pray for me. This will be tough. But by the grace of God I will succeed…and share with all of you along the way. 🙂
